What is expected of Catholic Priests when they take Holy Orders?

I was told by the nuns that nuns would have to give up all 'wordly belongings' and they literally only keep one outfit for going home in from time to time and have to wear the nun's garments all the time. Also any worldly books and music etc is confiscated. Monks I think are the same, but what about priests. I always had the belief that when I went to confession, the priest would not be allowed to have worldly items, including smutty newspapers and this gave me the confidence to trust them when confessing my sins. Is this true or not?
