A question about a beer snack.?

This is not a question about beer, it is a question about a snack that used to be sold at local watering holes all over the country. Does anybody remember a smoked, salted and dried herring snack called Blind Robins? If so, I would like to know the origin of the name. Is there some folklore attached? How does one equate robins with fish? The last time I checked, they had nothing to do with each other. Thank you in advance.
