80's Lakers were Magic or Kareem's team?

who was the captain and who was the sidekick? on youtube i hear the commentators say Kareem was the captain. sure he was there before Magic. but it wasnt until Magic came and then they won the Finals. i think Kareem has 5 rings in L.A (1 in Milwaukee) because of Magic. so who was the captain? cause Magic led his team in the 80 finals when Kareem himself was injured as a rookie.
